New Publication: Anthropocentrism between Eco-Marxism and New Materialism

For those who read Italian: a little more Marx!
Together with Francesco Aloe, I contributed a chapter to the recently published volume Dialettiche marxiane. Confronti, crisi, scenari (Orthotes, 2026), edited by Raffaele Maria Campanile (thank you!), Nicola Cirulli, and Paolo Polizzi, with a foreword by Jacques Bidet.
In “La controversia antropocentrica: tra nuovi materialismi e ritorni marxisti”, we revisit and reinterpret Althusser’s critique of the problematic of theoretical humanism, bringing its anthropocentric underpinnings to the fore. From there, we put this critique to work on two influential contemporary attempts to rethink materialism: the returns to an “old” materialism increasingly invoked within eco-Marxism, on the one hand, and the new materialisms, on the other.
It is a pleasure and an honour to be part of a volume whose central aim is to reactivate Marxian thought in our present in which all modern categories - philosophical, political, economic, cultural, religious, and artistic - seem to fall away. What is at stake is precisely a non-dogmatic reading of Marx: one that neither overlooks the limits of his work nor relinquishes its hermeneutic and emancipatory possibilities.
