About
Chiara Stefanoni (she/her)
I am a philosopher at Leuphana University Lüneburg. I work within the continental tradition, drawing on critical theory, Marxist thought, and Foucauldian concepts, to investigate how social structures, scientific practices, and technologies shape human–animal relations and environmental problematizations. A second, connected line of research engages ecofeminism, Marxist feminism, and queer theory.
Since 2018, I am a member of the editorial board of the critical animal studies journal Liberazioni. Rivista di critica antispecista.

Research Interests
My research approach is rooted in materialism and intersectionality and it combines three domains:

Critical Animal Studies
I explore how human-animal relations are configured as anthropocentric, hierarchical dualism - ontologically, ethically, and politically - through social structures, knowledge regimes, and technologies across Western contexts, especially animal agriculture and food systems

Feminist and Queer Theory
-
I specialize in the thought of ecofeminist Val Plumwood to address gender and species intersections
-
I work with Marxist feminism and queer theory (esp. Teresa de Lauretis) to analyze gender and reproduction in capitalist society

Marxist Tradition
I understand Marx's thought as an analysis of the historically specific form of socialization in capitalist society. My reference points for this reception are: the New Marx Reading (NMR), Louis Althusser, Jacques Rancière
